“Children are speaking up: are we ready to listen?” was the title of my talk at Rhodes House, Oxford University. This was part of the Scholar Talk series where senior Rhodes Scholars make presentations on their work and can engage in discussions with current students. I explained children’s right to express views on issues affecting their lives, shared experience from various countries where I have worked, reflected on challenges related to ensuring meaningful child participation, and made some recommendations. The relaxed setting of Rhodes House was conducive for a dialogue with Rhodes Scholars (presently completing graduate studies at Oxford) who asked thoughtful questions on child rights and were also interested in talking about work in development sector in general.
